Gamco Corporation fabricated a custom eleven-foot diameter octagonal pyramid glass skylight for the new Victoria Tower Hotel and Theater building at 233 W. 125th Street in Harlem, NY. The unit framing was fully assembled at Gamco’s factory and field-glazed at the job site. The skylight is on the 6th-floor setback of the 30-story building.
The skylight was designed to provide light to an open gathering space within the hotel and offer dramatic views from below of the sky enveloped by the concave shape of the tower rising 24 additional stories above. Clarity, safety, and thermal performance of the skylight is assured with the use of dual pane, laminated, tempered insulated glass panels.
The skylight unit is framed using internally reinforced aluminum hip rafters with integral condensate gutters, aluminum purlins, and an octagonal top bracket and compression cap.
Since the skylight is set upon a public access outdoor garden level, Gamco also supplied a surrounding glass railing enclosure to protect the skylight. The octagonal perimeter uses 240 sq. ft. of 6-ft. tall tempered glass panels and tubular stainless steel railing tops and posts to provide safety while not hindering views.
